Question 1 of 13

Dress Style

What's the overall silhouette of your gown?

A-Line or Ballgown
Fitted bodice with a full, flowing skirt — classic princess silhouette
Fit & Flare or Mermaid
Hugs the body through the hips, then flares out at or below the knee
Sheath or Column
Slim, straight silhouette that follows the body's natural shape
Two-Piece, Jumpsuit, or Other
Non-traditional style or something unique
Designer Insight
Your dress silhouette directly affects what alterations are needed. Fit & flare styles almost always need precise fitting through the hips, which means more specialized work than a flowing A-line.
Question 2 of 13

Skirt Fullness

How much volume does your skirt have?

Narrow / Slim
The skirt is close to the body or has minimal volume
Moderate
The skirt has some flow but isn't overly full (typical A-line)
Full / Ballgown
Lots of volume, multiple layers, wide circumference
Cost Insight
Skirt fullness is one of the biggest factors in hemming cost. A slim skirt might only need one or two seams touched, while a full ballgown can involve multiple layers and a much wider circumference — so the more fabric, the more work involved.
Question 3 of 13

Hem Edge Detail

What's at the bottom of your dress?

Plain or Clean Edge
A simple, clean hemline with no decorative detail
Trim, Horsehair, or Fishing Line Edge
A structured or finished edge using trim, horsehair braid, or rolled fishing line
Lace Appliqué or Beading at the Hem
Decorative lace or beadwork along the hemline that will need to be carefully lifted and reset
Not Sure
No worries — we'll assess this at your first fitting
Labor Alert
If your hem has lace appliqués or beading, those details need to be carefully removed, the hem shortened, and then each piece hand-sewn back into place. This is one of the most labor-intensive parts of wedding dress alterations and has a big impact on pricing.
Question 4 of 13

What Alterations Do You Anticipate Needing?

Select all that apply

Bodice / Bust Fit
Too loose, too tight, or gaps around the bust or ribcage
Waist & Hip Fit
Needs taking in or letting out at the waist or hips
Length / Hemming
Dress needs to be shortened to match your heel height
Bustle
Train needs to be bustled up for the reception so you can dance
Alteration Insight
Almost every bride needs hemming and a bustle — these are the two most common alterations. Bodice adjustments are also very typical since most gowns are ordered by the largest measurement and then taken in to fit.
Question 5 of 13

Additions

Any custom details you want to add?

Add or Modify Straps
Adding straps for extra support or changing the existing strap style
Add Sleeves
Adding sleeves to a strapless or spaghetti-strap gown
Add Cups
Sewn-in cups for extra support and coverage
Add Boning
Extra boning sewn into the bodice for additional structure
Add Buttons
Decorative button detailing along the back or elsewhere
Add Beading or Lace Appliqué
Embellishing the gown with beadwork or lace details
None of These
Just need the standard fitting alterations
Designer Tip
Small additions like adding cups are very common and affordable. More involved changes like adding sleeves or extensive beading take extra time and materials — so plan for those early!
Question 6 of 13

Extra Customizations

Want to create a second look or add a statement piece?

Bow
A removable or sewn-on bow for a statement detail
Lace Bolero or Topper
A lace cover-up piece for the ceremony or extra coverage
Overlay or Overskirt
An additional layer worn over the dress for a different look
Cape or Detachable Train
A dramatic cape or removable train for extra wow factor
None of These
No extra customizations needed
Customization Insight
Custom extras like boleros, overskirts, and capes are a beautiful way to create a completely unique look — or even get two looks out of one dress! These pieces are custom-made for your gown, so they require a custom quote. The earlier you plan for them, the better.
Question 7 of 13

Primary Fabric

What's your dress made of?

Lace or Lace Overlay
Delicate lace throughout or a lace layer over a base fabric
Satin, Mikado, or Crepe
Smooth, structured fabrics with a clean or shiny finish
Tulle or Chiffon
Light, airy, and layered — common in ballgowns and boho styles
Not Sure
No worries — we'll sort this out at your first fitting
Why Fabric Matters
Lace and heavily beaded fabrics require more delicate, time-intensive work. Every cut through lace has to be finished by hand to preserve the pattern. This is one of the biggest factors in alteration pricing.
Question 8 of 13

Where Purchased

Tell us a bit about how you got your dress

Bridal Boutique / Salon
Ordered through a traditional bridal shop
Online Retailer
Purchased from an online shop (e.g., BHLDN, Etsy, Amazon, direct-from-designer)
Pre-Owned, Vintage, or Inherited
A secondhand find, vintage gown, or meaningful family heirloom
Custom Made
Had the dress designed and made specifically for you
Heads Up

If your gown is secondhand, pre-owned, or passed down, we strongly recommend having it professionally cleaned *before* bringing it in for alterations. Stains and buildup can affect the fabric and make it harder to work with, and we want to give your dress the best possible starting point.

Also good to know: the price you paid for your dress has no bearing on the cost of alterations. Whether your gown was $500 or $5,000, the work involved is based on the construction, fabric, and fit — not the price tag. This surprises a lot of brides, especially those who found a great deal online!

Question 9 of 13

Timeline

When's your wedding day?

6+ Months Away
Perfect — you're ahead of the game! This gives you time to schedule your first fitting at the ideal 3–4 month mark.
3 – 6 Months Away
Great timing — but reach out ASAP to avoid rush fee territory.
12 Weeks or Less
You're in the rush fee window. Contact us immediately to see if we have availability to get you in!
Timeline Tip
It's never too early to schedule! Ideally, reach out as soon as you purchase your dress — don't wait until it arrives from the designer. Your first fitting will happen about 3–4 months before the wedding. Most brides need about 3 fittings (sometimes more, sometimes less), but we always plan for 3 in the beginning just to be safe. Anything within 12 weeks of the wedding is considered a rush and will incur an additional fee of $100–$250.
Question 10 of 13

Do You Have Your Shoes Yet?

These are important for hemming!

Yes, I Have Them
Great! Bring them to your first fitting so we can mark your hem accurately.
Not Yet, But I Know What I'm Getting
Just make sure to have them in hand before your first fitting appointment.
Haven't Decided Yet
No rush, but you'll need them before we can mark your hem length.
Shoe Tip
Please have your wedding day shoes at your first fitting — we need them to accurately mark your hem length. And here's something brides are always surprised to hear: it doesn't matter to us whether we're hemming half an inch or five inches. It's almost the same process. So pick the shoes YOU love and feel comfortable in, and don't worry about how much hemming it will add. Also, if your wedding is on grass, you may want to consider that when choosing your heel height — and we may suggest going just a touch shorter on the hem.
Question 11 of 13

Planning to Wear Shapewear?

We can help you feel supported either way

Yes, I Plan To
Make sure to bring it to your first fitting so we can fit the dress over it.
No, I Don't Think So
That's totally fine — we can build in all the support you need.
Not Sure Yet
No worries — we'll talk through your options at your first fitting.
Myth Buster
Here's something most brides don't know: you do NOT have to wear shapewear, sticky cups, or adhesive bras unless you just want to. We can build in all the support you need — cups, boning, structure — right into the dress itself. In fact, we usually recommend skipping the sticky stuff because it often causes more issues than it solves. If you do decide to wear shapewear, just make sure you have it at your first fitting so we can fit the dress over it.

Yes, Definitely
I want to keep my dress in perfect condition after the wedding
Maybe — Tell Me More
I'm curious but want to learn about it first
Not Right Now
